We all love movies and television shows. What’s not to love?
I love them because it’s mostly pretence. A fantasy. For a few hours or minutes, I can lose myself into a mostly made-up person and if it is good, identify with them completely.
I love that movies can make you feel joy or pain, sadness or contempt, love or hate, and that whole spectrum of emotions. I also love that they have the power to bring all these emotions in their depths out of you even when you know with certainty that the story is pure fiction.
Movies have shaped our cultures and the way we live. We use them to mirror our societies and they allow us to look at ourselves from another perspective.
Because of their impact and influence on our lives, movies and TV shows and the many aspects around them have always been politicised.
With people; the creators and audiences alike wanting a say in who should play what character, why, and when.
