Depression is a mood disorder that affects the way a person lives their day to day lives. A depressed person can feel sad from time to time without being able to pinpoint the exact reasons causing their sadness in some instances.

It can be caused by a wide range of issues such as uncertainty, finances, traumatising experiences, the loss of a loved one, failure among others.

Depression may lead a person to withdraw from normal society, to lose their appetite which can affect their weight and overall health, it can lead to poor hygiene where they may feel unmotivated to perform simple tasks such as taking a shower or even brushing their teeth. Continuous neglect of such hygiene issues may lead to long term health problems such as skin problems and tooth decay.

Depression may affect the way a person performs their job. They may perform poorly, quit or even get fired which could end up affecting their finances and destabilising their housing leading to homelessness.

Depression is not easy to overcome and it may even last years if untreated or when the issues causing the depression are unresolved.
