Gratitude: Lessons From Michael Jackson

Gratitude was at the core of who Michael Jackson was. He practised it consistently through out his life.

Even though he did share that he worked really hard to horn his massive talent through practice and persistence, Jackson didn’t take full credit for it. He on many occasions stated that his talent was a gift from God. “ I am so proud God gave me the gift of song and the world gave me the opportunity to be heard through music." He thanked God through out his life adding that he couldn’t take credit for the songs he wrote because they came from God and just fell on his laps.

When Jackson collected his many awards through the decades, he was always thankful.

To his mother as he accepted his NAACP award in 1993 he said “Thank you for giving me life. I really mean that. I love you.”

His collaborators have also mentioned Jackson’s thankful nature. In a handwritten note to Bruce Swedien who worked on numerous Jackson projects since the 80’s he writes , “ Bruce Thanks for putting up with my craziness.” He also wrote him a note thanking him for his work on his song Childhood.

In a letter to Bill Bray his head of security of many years among other sentimental words, Jackson wrote, “What I am simply trying to say is thank you for being a father.”
